Mochi Bacon Rolls

My housemate’s experiments yielded this amazing snack to the delight of the entire sharehouse. Savory and slightly sweet, crispy on the outside, but soft in the middle. You don’t need many to feel full, but just for the flavor, it can be hard to stop.

Ingredients

  • 16 pieces square mochi (substitute tteokbokki rice cakes or glutinous rice pieces depending on availability), bite sized
  • 16 bacon slices
  • dash soy sauce

Directions

  1. Wrap a bacon slice around a piece of mochi and place on a plate. Repeat until all mochi are wrapped.
  2. Heat frying pan over medium heat.
  3. Fry mochi pieces on medium heat until bacon is brown, and mochi gets softer.
  4. Turn to the other side and fry until both sides are equally done.
  5. Add some soy sauce to finish. Heat will evaporate water from soy sauce, and create a teriyaki flavor. Stir and flip mochi until all pieces are glazed.
